US draws with Netherlands at Women's World Cup

The United States Women's National Team (USWNT) and the Netherlands played to a 1-1 draw in the 2023 Women's World Cup, in a closely-fought rematch of the 2019 World Cup final.

The Netherlands took an early lead in the 17th minute with a goal from midfielder Jill Roord.

It was the first time the USWNT trailed in a Women's World Cup match since 2011, ending a streak of 17 consecutive matches without trailing.

US captain Lindsey Horan scored the equalizer in the 62nd minute with a header from a corner kick.

The USWNT outshot the Netherlands 9-2 in the first half but couldn't capitalize on their chances until the second half.

The USWNT thought they had taken the lead, but Alex Morgan's goal was disallowed for offside.

Dutch goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar praised her team's performance and composure during the match.

In another match, Portugal defeated Vietnam 2-0, with Telma Encarnação and Francisca Nazareth scoring the goals.

With two defeats in their first two games, Vietnam was eliminated from the Women's World Cup. The group stage matches conclude before moving into the knockout stage with the top 16 teams.
